What’s the Difference between Signing Ministry and Deaf Ministry?

Topic for July Post:

“What’s the Difference between Signing Ministry and Deaf Ministry?”

So often, we hear of churches having deaf ministries. When we visit some of these churches and ask the question, “What’s the difference between a signing ministry and a deaf ministry?” often, the question can’t be answered. There is a distinct difference between the two.

On this blog, please list what you think those differences are. Let’s make this a healthy discussion. If you’re in a place and can’t distinguish the difference, we’re hoping some of the comments posted will bring clarity.

Please don’t list names of any specific churches, ministries, or interpreters. This discussion is solely for the purpose of building up, not tearing down.

Be blessed!

There is a definate difference. Sadly, our Church is currently a signed ministry. The deaf community are currently arguing and bickering among themselves and it has effected the church, although the origin of dispute was not born in the Church. No one wants to come incase “so and so” is there. So they all avoid their issues by not coming to Church where they would have to be NICE to each other. It is the saddest thing I have ever witnessed. BUT either God sends them, or they come just to show us they are not mad at the church…they do come..one, two or three a week……enough to keep the “deaf” section open. But they no longer come to Sunday school, have a Bible study, have a deaf choir, have evangelistic outreaches, go to Deaf Ministry events……..it is simply an interpreted Church service where they share their prayer requests with the congregation, sing along and learn the word of God through interpretation. There is a HUGE difference.
