| Participants will
explore elements of effective practice and to develop
strategies for assessment, growth and change for those
they mentor. Based on principles of adult learning
theory, this workshop relies on a strong technical
knowledge of aspects of interpreting and a desire to
participate in the development of transitioning
interpreters. Participants will learn fundamental
principles of assessment and evaluation, feedback and
evaluation, coaching and supervision and fostering
independence while explore principles of adult learning.
This advanced workshop seeks to introduce a formal
method for mentoring that is effective, replicable and
appropriate.
Through lecture and hands-on, goal
oriented activities participants will develop techniques
for observation and analysis, goal setting and
development planning, teaching/learning strategies, and
how to foster ethical decision making. Students will
also explore aspects of fostering self-esteem and
confidence through coaching and supervision while
incorporating strategies to develop cultural competence. |
